Gran Morelos is a municipality with a good 3200 inhabitants in the Mexican state of Chihuahua . The municipality has an area of 486.1 km². The administrative seat and largest place in the municipality is San Nicolás de Carretas .
The municipality of Gran Morelos received its name in 1933 in honor of José María Morelos y Pavón .
geography
The municipality of Gran Morelos is located in the center of the state of Chihuahua at an altitude between 1600 m and 2300 m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre Occidental , lies entirely in the hydrological region Bravo - Conchos and thus drains into the Gulf of Mexico . The geology of the municipality is 67% determined by conglomerate rock with 12% rhyolite tuff and 6% alluvion ; The predominant soil types in the municipality are the Phaeozem (34%), Calcisol , Leptosol (22% each), Regosol (11%) and Cambisol (7%). 47% of the municipality is used for arable farming, 29% is forested, 22% is taken up by pastureland.
The municipality is surrounded by the municipalities Cusihuiriachi , Cuauhtémoc , Riva Palacio , Santa Isabel and Dr. Belisario Domínguez .
population
The 2010 census counted 3209 people in 1070 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 46 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 31 speakers of the Tarahumara language . A good six percent of the population was illiterate. 1246 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 79% were men and a good 4% were unemployed. Two and a half percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
