Ignacio Zaragoza is a municipality with about 7000 inhabitants in the Mexican state of Chihuahua . The municipality has an area of 2864.2 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is Ignacio Zaragoza of the same name .
The municipality bears the name of the Mexican general Ignacio Zaragoza († 1862).
geography
The Municipio Ignacio Zaragoza is located northwest of the center of the state of Chihuahua at an altitude between 1400 m and 3000 m . 96% of it belongs to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre Occidental , the rest belongs to the Sierras y Llanuras del Norte . The municipality lies entirely in the hydrological region of the endorheic basin of the Cuencas Cerradas del Norte (Casas Grandes) . The geology of the municipality is determined by 47% rhyolite tuff with 32% conglomerate rock , 11% tuff and 5% each basalt and alluvion ; The predominant soil types in the municipality are Leptosol (34%), Umbrisol (25%), Luvisol (19%), Phaeozem (8.5%) and Calcisol (7%). About 51% of the municipality are forested, about 35% are used as pasture land, 12% are used for agriculture.
The municipality borders on the municipalities Casas Grandes , Galeana , Buenaventura , Namiquipa , Gómez Farías and Madera .

In the 2010 census, 6934 people were counted in 2170 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 10 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language . 3.5 percent of the population were illiterate. 2606 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 78% were men or 5.3% were unemployed. 3.3 percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
