Coronado is a municipality with around 2,300 inhabitants in the Mexican state of Chihuahua . The municipality has an area of 1893.5 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is José Esteban Coronado .
geography
The Municipio Coronado is located in the southeast of the state of Chihuahua at an altitude between 1200 m and 2400 m . The municipality belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierras y Llanuras del Norte and is 87% in the endorheic basin of the Bolsón de Mapimí , 13% are in the hydrological region Bravo - Conchos and drain into the Gulf of Mexico . The geology of the municipality is determined by 56% alluvion with 16% rhyolite tuff , 15% basalt and 7% conglomerate rock ; The predominant soil types in the municipality are Calcisol (47%), Leptosol (25%), Vertisol (7%), Luvisol (6%) and Regosol (5%). 63% of the community area is taken up by scrub landscape, 34% is used as pastureland.
The municipality borders on the municipalities of Matamoros , Allende , López and Jiménez as well as the state of Durango .

In the 2010 census, 2284 people in 675 residential units were counted in the municipality. Of these, 14 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 12 speakers of the Tarahumara language . About 5 percent of the population was illiterate. 920 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which almost 80% were men and 3.8% were unemployed. 4.25 percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
