Uruachi is a municipality with 8,200 inhabitants in the Mexican state of Chihuahua . The municipality has an area of 2663.1 km². The administrative seat and largest place in the municipality is Uruachi .
geography
The municipality of Uruachi is located in the west of the state of Chihuahua at an altitude between 200 m and 2900 m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre Occidental . A good 72% of the community area is in the catchment area of the Río Mayo , a good 27% drains via the Río Fuerte , each into the Gulf of California . The geology of the municipality is dominated by over 85% extrusive rock (61% rhyolite tuff ) with 11% sedimentary rock ; The predominant soil types in the municipality are the Phaeozem (45%), Regosol , Leptosol and Cambisol (each around 17%). Almost 90% of the municipality is occupied by forests, almost 10% serve as pastureland.
The municipality is surrounded by the municipalities Maguarichi , Ocampo , Moris , Chínipas , Guazapares and the state of Sonora .

The 2010 census counted 8,200 people in 2087 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 1595 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , of which 1068 speakers of the Tarahumara language and 454 speakers of the Guarijío . About 21% of the population were illiterate. 2,690 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 88% were men and approx. 5% were unemployed. Almost 46% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
