Aldama is a municipality with a good 22,000 inhabitants in the Mexican state of Chihuahua . The municipality extends over an area of 9228.4 km². The administrative seat and largest place in the municipality is Juan Aldama . The municipality bears his name as well as its main town in honor of the Mexican revolutionary Juan Aldama .
geography
The municipality of Aldama is located northeast of the center of the state of Chihuahua at an altitude between 900 m and 2300 m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierras y Llanuras del Norte . 49.5% of the municipal area lies in the hydrological region Bravo - Conchos and drains into the Gulf of Mexico , 46.3% lies in the endorheic basin of the Cuencas Cerradas del Norte , 4.2% drains into the Bolsón de Mapimí . The geology of the municipality is determined with over 56.1% of alluvion with 12% conglomerate rock , 11% limestone , 7% rhyolite tuff and 5% sandstone - lutite ; The predominant soil types in the municipality are Calcisol (45.5%), Leptosol (22%), Regosol (12%) and Solonchak (8%). More than 70% of the municipality is taken up by the scrub landscape, 23% serve as pastureland.
The municipality is surrounded by the municipalities Chihuahua , Ahumada , Coyame del Sotol , Ojinaga , Julimes , Rosales and Aquiles Serdán .

The 2010 census counted 22,302 people in 6210 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 218 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , 165 of them speakers of the Tarahumara language . About 3.8% of the population were illiterate. 8653 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 70% were men and approx. 5.7% were unemployed. 2.3% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
