Galeana is a municipality with almost 6000 inhabitants in the Mexican state of Chihuahua . The municipality has an area of 1731.5 km². The administrative seat is Hermenegildo Galeana , while the largest place in the municipality is Abdenago C. García .

geography

The Municipio Galeana is located in the northwest of the state of Chihuahua at an altitude between 1300 m and 2600 m . 90.6% of it belongs to the physiographic province of the Sierras y Llanuras del Norte and 9.4% to the Sierra Madre Occidental . The municipal area lies entirely in the hydrological region of the endorheic basin of the Cuencas Cerradas del Norte (Casas Grandes) . The geology of the municipality is determined to 63% by alluvions with 26% tuff ; The predominant soil types in the municipality are Leptosol (32%), Calcisol (29%), Cambisol (15%), Regosol (13%) and Solonetz (7%). 44% of the municipality is occupied by pastureland, 39% are covered by scrub, 8% are forested, 7% are used for arable farming.

The municipality is surrounded by the Municipios Nuevo Casas Grandes , Buenaventura , Ignacio Zaragoza and Casas Grandes .

In the 2010 census, 5892 people were counted in 1379 residential units in the municipality. Of which 192 persons were identified as speakers of indigenous language registered, of which 166 speakers of Mixtec . A good five percent of the population was illiterate. 1901 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 78% were men and approx. 2.6% were unemployed. 7.8% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
