Gerhard Speidel

Gerhard Speidel (born December 28, 1923 in Züllichau , died November 3, 1992 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German forest scientist .

Life

Gerhard Speidel was born on December 28, 1923 in Züllichau , then located in the Brandenburg province of the Free State of Prussia , now a small Polish town called Sulechów . He began studying mathematics and physics in 1943 . From 1945 he studied forest sciences and received his diploma in 1948 . He then worked in the Lower Saxony forest administration and as a consultant at the Rhineland Chamber of Agriculture . He received his doctorate in 1952, his doctoral supervisor was Hubert Hugo Hilf . In 1956 he qualified as a professor at Reinhard Schober at the University of Göttingen belonging forestry faculty in Hann. Münden with a work on performance control in forest management.

In 1957 he was appointed to the chair of forest policy and forest business management at the Georg-August University in Göttingen as the successor to Hans Lemmel . In 1965 he moved to the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg to the chair for forest management and forest management. At the end of the 1985 summer semester, he retired early for health reasons. On November 3rd, 1992 he died after a long illness.

From 1974 to 1978 he was President of the German Forestry Council . In 1987 he was awarded the Karl Abetz Prize . Speidel supervised over 60 doctorates and habilitations, including the doctoral theses of Wedig Kausch-Blecken von Schmeling and Gerhard Oesten .

Gerhard Speidel advocated a new conception of forest business management , which was based on neoclassical theory and based on the concepts of business production factors from Erich Gutenberg and the decision-making approach from Edmund Heinen .
