Buenaventura is a municipality with a good 22,000 inhabitants in the Mexican state of Chihuahua . The municipality has an area of 7920.8 km². The administrative seat and largest place of the municipality is San Buenaventura .
geography
The municipality of Buenaventura is located in the north of the state of Chihuahua at an altitude between 1100 m and 2900 m . 74% of it belongs to the physiographic province of Sierras y Llanuras del Norte and 26% to the Sierra Madre Occidental . The municipality lies entirely in the endorheic hydrological region of Cuencas Cerradas del Norte . The geology of the municipality is determined by 40% alluvions with 27% conglomerate rock and 20% rhyolite tuff ; The predominant soil types in the municipality are Leptosol (36%), Calcisol (22%), Regosol (14%) and Cambisol (8%). 47% of the community area is taken up by pastureland, 32% is covered by undergrowth, 10% is forested, 5% is used for arable farming.
The municipality is surrounded by the municipality of Ascensión , Ahumada , Chihuahua , Namiquipa , Ignacio Zaragoza , Galeana and Nuevo Casas Grandes .

The 2010 census counted 22,378 people in 6148 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 855 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 642 speakers of Mixtec . A good 5% of the population was illiterate. 8,572 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which 73.5% were men and 3% were unemployed. 7.6% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
