La Cruz is a municipality with around 4,000 inhabitants in the Mexican state of Chihuahua . The municipality has an area of ​​1054.6 km². The administrative seat and largest town of the municipality is La Cruz of the same name .

geography

The municipality of La Cruz is located in the east of the state of Chihuahua at an altitude between 1100  m and 1900  m . It belongs entirely to the physiographic province of the Sierras y Llanuras del Norte ; 65% of the municipality are in the endorheic basin of the Bolsón de Mapimí , the rest is in the hydrological region Bravo - Conchos and drains into the Gulf of Mexico . The geology of the municipality is 54% determined by alluvions with 24% conglomerate rock and 13% basalt ; The predominant soil types in the municipality are Calcisol (37%), Leptosol (23%), Vertisol (13%), Regosol (10%) and Luvisol (8%). 52% of the municipality is used as pastureland, 40% is covered by scrub landscape.

The Municipio borders on the Municipios Saucillo , Camargo and San Francisco de Conchos .

In the 2010 census, 3982 people were counted in 1095 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 12 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language . 3.6 percent of the population were illiterate. 1374 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which 78% were men and 7.7% were unemployed. Five percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
