Guerrero is a municipality with just under 40,000 inhabitants in the Mexican state of Chihuahua . The municipality has an area of 5738 km². The administrative seat of the municipality is Vicente Guerrero , while the largest place is La Junta .
The municipality is named after the folk hero Vicente Guerrero .
In the municipality are the two nature reserves of Papigochic and Tutuaca.
geography
The municipality of Guerrero is located west of the center of the state of Chihuahua at an altitude between 1700 m and 3100 m . 99.8% of it belongs to the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre Occidental . 96% of the municipality is located in the hydrological region of Sonora Sur and drains mainly via the Río Yaqui into the Gulf of California , 3.5% is in the endorheic basin of Cuencas Cerradas del Norte (Casas Grandes) , 0.5% in the hydrological region of Bravo - Conchos and drain into the Gulf of Mexico . The geology of the municipality is 57% rhyolite tuff with 22% conglomerate rock , 9% sandstone conglomerate and 5% basalt ; The predominant soil types in the municipality are Leptosol (30%), Regosol (23%) and Luvisol (15%), Phaeozem (13%), Durisol (8%) and Umbrisol (7%). About 71% of the municipality is forested, 24% serve as arable land, 4% are used as pasture land.
The municipality borders on the municipalities Matachí , Namiquipa , Bachíniva , Cuauhtémoc , Cusihuiriiachi , Carichí , Bocoyna , Ocampo and Temósachi .

In the 2010 census, 39,626 people in 11,669 residential units were counted in the municipality. Of these, 1,029 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 886 speakers of the Tarahumara language . 5.9 percent of the population were illiterate. 15,053 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 76% were men and 6% were unemployed. 7.8 percent of the population lived in extreme poverty.
