Wang Chuzhi's tomb
The grave of Wang Chuzhi ( Chinese 王 處 直 墓 / 王 处 直 墓 , Pinyin Wang Chuzhi mu , W.-G. Wang Ch'u-chih mu , English Tomb of Wang Chuzhi ) is the grave of Wang Chuzhi (863– 923), a high military governor from the late Tang Dynasty and the Later Liang Dynasty of the Five Dynasties . It was discovered in 1980 in Xiyanchuan Village, Quyang County (Baoding), Hebei Province, China .
The grave was robbed in July 1994. However, it is of great historical value because of its artistically high-quality wall paintings and reliefs .
Painted marble reliefs
A group of maidservants and a fifteen-member ladies' orchestra can be seen on two painted marble reliefs . It provides information about the musical taste of the upper class of the late Tang dynasty.
Ladies orchestra
The group consists of a conductor, two little dancers in front of him, the actual orchestra consists of twelve. In the front row, five women - from right to left - play the instruments konghou箜篌 (bow harp), zheng箏 ( vaulted board zither), pipa琵琶 (lute), paiban拍板 (stripe clapper ) and dagu大鼓 (bass drum), in of the back row of seven ladies on the instruments sheng笙 (mouth organ), fangxiang方 響 ( percussion board ), dalagu答 臘 鼓 (west Asian cylinder drum), bili篳 篥 (oboe; 2 ×) and hengdi橫笛 (bamboo flute; 2 ×).
