The Grabspitze ( 3059 m slm , Italian Cima Grava ), formerly also called Hochferner , is after the Wild Kreuzspitze ( 3135 m ) the second highest peak of the Fundres Mountains , a subgroup of the Zillertal Alps in South Tyrol . The earlier name "Hochferner" was derived from a firn field on the summit flank.
Ascent
The easiest ascent is from Platz ( 1435 m ) in the Pfitscher Valley southwards past the small hamlet Überwasser, initially on the right side of the stream, steeply through the forest. After the tree line, the path continues along the valley of the Überwasserbach. At about 2600 m you reach a larger hollow, from which the summit with the cross becomes visible. The path now turns, still steep, in the direction of a notch on the western ridge of the Grabspitze, which is reached at an altitude of about 2780 m . The further path on the west ridge is somewhat exposed in places and remains steep until you reach the pre-summit. From there, the trail leads a bit in the southern flank into an indistinct ridge depression near the summit, the last few meters lead from there in the northern flank to the summit. The ascent from the Pfitscher Tal takes about four to five hours. Most of the path is marked , but at various stream crossings the original route can no longer be recognized due to floods. The Grabspitze is usually climbed in the spring as part of a ski tour, the ascent route largely corresponds to the marked hiking trail.
