Gráda is an Irish folk group from near Galway , whose members are based in Ireland and New Zealand .
history
Gráda was founded in 2001 by Anne Marie O´Malley, Alan Doherty, Andrew Laking, Brendan O´Sullivan and Gerry Paul. The band members are shaped by a wide variety of musical influences. Alan Doherty, for example, acted as a flautist on the soundtrack of the film trilogy The Lord of the Rings , which won an Oscar . After Anne Marie O'Malley left the band, she was replaced during a casting by the former music and Irish teacher Nicola Joyce. Colin Farrell replaced Brendan O´Sullivan for a short time, only to be replaced by David Doocey. For Alan Doherty, Stephen Doherty (not related to him) joined the band in April 2009.
style
The Irish Times described the band as the "hottest new traditional band around" . Gráda do not see themselves as a traditional folk band, even if, according to their own statement, their roots are deeply anchored in Irish music tradition. It is more of a mix of pop , traditional music and jazz - lounge .
