The Grafenegg Festival is a concert festival that takes place annually from the end of August to mid-September in Grafenegg ( Lower Austria ).

history

Under the artistic direction of pianist Rudolf Buchbinder , the festival has been taking place on the Grafenegg palace area since 2007 . The open air stage Wolkenturm, the Auditorium concert hall and the historic riding school, which is used for prelude concerts and introductory talks, serve as venues. The role of Orchestra in Residence is played by the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria . From the 13-14 season the concert series will be called the “Grafenegg Festival” (instead of the Grafenegg Music Festival).

The open air stage built in 2007 for 1730 concert-goers was named as the cloud tower. It was designed by the architects the nextENTERprise - architects, Marie-Therese Harnoncourt and Ernst J. Fuchs. The open air stage is embedded in a natural depression in the middle of the castle park and serves both as an event location and as an object in the landscape park. Müller-BBM from Munich is responsible for the acoustic design . The Cloud Tower was awarded the 2007 Austrian Bauherrenpreis excellent, and 2008 with the Austrian construction price .

The cloud tower was opened on June 22, 2007 with the annual summer night gala. The gala program was designed by the Tonkünstler Orchestra under Alfred Eschwé and with Genia Kühmeier , Johan Botha , Bryn Terfel and Julian Rachlin . The summer night gala at the Wolkenturm is also shown live on ORF and 3sat every year . In addition to the seats, 300 grass pitches can also be booked at low prices. In the event of bad weather, the concerts will be moved to the auditorium.

The Auditorium concert hall was opened in May 2008 and can accommodate up to 1,300 visitors. The auditorium was planned by the Dortmund office architects schröder schulte-ladbeck . From September 2007 the project was supervised and completed by the architect Dieter Irresberger. The Munich company Müller-BBM was responsible for the acoustic design.

program

The program of the Grafenegg Festival provides for fourteen concerts over four weekends, each opening with a summer night gala in the Wolkenturm with international singing stars and fireworks. The program focuses on orchestral concerts with international guest orchestras and recitals by soloists. The Orchestra in Residence, the Tonkünstler Orchestra , organizes a total of three concerts. Part of the concept is also an extensive supporting program with introductory talks, prelude concerts, soirées, matinees, film screenings and the like. Ä ..

Composer in Residence

The composer in residence plays a central role every year , writing a commissioned work for the Grafenegg Festival and premiering it himself at the festival.
