Gran Turismo injection

Gran Turismo Injection ( GTI for short ) is a term for automobiles with a sporty character. The concept is an extension of Gran Turismo (GT) and was originally designed for car use, which fell under the category GT, but additional fuel injection (English injection had).

The abbreviation was first used in 1962 on the Maserati 3500 GTI . It became popular with the 1976 VW Golf GTI .

The use of the abbreviation GTI is protected by certain manufacturers in some countries. In 2012, the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that there was no risk of confusion between the GTI and SWIFT GTI brands . Since then, Volkswagen has no longer been allowed to use the abbreviation exclusively in the European Union .
