Grand Hotel Imperial

The Grand Hotel Imperial is a hotel in the spa town of Levico Terme in Valsugana in Trentino .

history

Julius Adrian Pollacsek founded the Levico-Vetriolo Heilquellen Gesellschaft in 1895 and began building the Grand Hotel and a thermal building in 1898, after having previously bought around twelve hectares of land. After eight months of construction, the shell was completed in the summer of 1899. From the beginning, Pollasek's aim was to use the mineral waters containing arsenic and iron from the thermal baths and to build a hotel that was as renowned as possible, surrounded by a large park, in the middle of the spa town in South Tyrol . The green area still preserved today was designed by Georg Ziehl (1873–1953). The park was included in the list of the Grand Giardini Italiani ("Great Italian Gardens").

On June 16, 1900, the building and the large park were opened almost simultaneously. After the Grand Hotel was damaged during the First World War , the municipality of Levico took over the management and restored the building in Vetriolo in 1930.

During the Second World War , the Grand Hotel was used as the main army command under Field Marshal Kesselring for war operations in the provinces of Padova , Vicenza and Trento . After the end of the war it again became the property of the Trentino-South Tyrol region. The Autonomous Province of Trento , which had owned the Grand Hotel since 1973, decided that the building needed to be renovated. It was extensively renovated and expanded with the aim of preserving the Art Nouveau and Belle Epoque atmosphere as much as possible.

In 1999, after years of neglect, the romantic park was also restored. This largely corresponds to its original appearance. The park now includes red beeches , Greek firs , North American Coulter pines and Douglas firs and other rare and special flora .

The Lago di Levico and Lago di Caldonazzo are located in the vicinity of the hotel, along with the mountains .
