Grands moulins de Corbeil
The Grands moulins de Corbeil (German Great Mills of Corbeil ) in Corbeil, a district of Corbeil-Essonnes in the Essonne department in the French region of Île-de-France , were built from 1893. The old parts of the large building complex have been protected as an architectural monument ( Monument historique ) since 1987 .
The industrial mill system was built along the banks of the Seine according to plans by the Parisian architect Paul Friesé . The buildings of the mill, which is still working today, consist of a metal frame and brick walls . Two wings are added to the eight-story central building. Concrete silos were erected around these buildings in the 20th century . The old buildings are decorated with ceramic tiles and equipped with high arched windows.
The iron footbridge that connected the mill with the shipping pier on the Seine was destroyed in a fire in 2011.
