The Granitnaya Mountain ( Russian Гора Гранитная Gora Granitnaja , German ' Granit Berg' ) is a 2880 m high mountain in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . In the Wohlthatmassiv it rises directly to the east of Skeidshovden .
It was discovered and mapped using aerial photographs during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . Further mapping was carried out on the basis of aerial photographs and measurements of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960) and again during a Soviet expedition that lasted from 1960 to 1961. Participants in the latter research trip gave it its descriptive name, which reflects the predominant rock of the mountain. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names transferred the Russian name to English in 1970.
