The gray wall is a 2816  m above sea level. A. high mountain peaks of the Rosenspitz group in the Venediger group in East Tyrol ( Austria ). It is located in the north-west of East Tyrol on the border between the communities of St. Jakob in Defereggen and Prägraten am Großvenediger . The Graue Wand was first climbed in July 1894 by J. Erlsbacher with B. Troger.

location

The gray wall consists of the north summit ( 2882  m above sea level ) and the south summit ( 2816  m above sea level ) and is made up of green chlorite slates. Although the north summit is the higher of the two peaks, the south summit is listed as the main summit of the Gray Wall in maps. The gray wall is located in the south of the Rosenspitz range between the Reichenberger Spitze ( 3030  m above sea level ) in the north and the Bachlenkenkopf ( 2759  m above sea level ) in the east. The walls of the gray wall slope to the south and southwest over the green Sentenboden to the Trojeralmtal , in the northeast the Bachlenkenkar extends.

Promotion opportunities

The gray wall is a secondary alpine destination, but has a certain importance as a climbing destination. The normal route leads from the Neuen Reichenberger Hütte, not far to the southeast, to the Bachlenkscharte, from where the north ridge on the west side, bypassing some ridge towers, is used for the ascent to the north summit ( I ). The south-east ascent over the east ridge to the south summit has areas of difficulty II in the summit area, as does the ridge crossing from the Bachlenkenkopf . In 1956 A. and H. Treibisch climbed the south face for the first time ( difficulty IV ).
