Club history

May 10, 2003, promotion match against Peterhead

The club was founded in 1874 under the name Morton Football Club, making it one of the oldest clubs in Scottish professional football. In 1886 Greenock Morton was converted into a limited company. The club was a founding member of the Second Division in 1893 . In 1900 he was promoted to the First Division . The high point of the club's history was winning the Scottish Cup in 1922. In the final, the highly popular Rangers from Glasgow were defeated.

For a long time the club struggled with financial difficulties, which resulted in the fact that they found themselves in the 4th division. It was not until 2007 that they could be promoted back to the second division.
