Greenwood is an American town in Sussex County in the US state of Delaware . As before, Greenwood is more of a village, only in summer it is livelier there when tourists drive to the nearby beach.
history
Historical sources put Greenwood's founding in 1858 . The place was named after the holly trees surrounding it. In 1858, the construction of the Delaware Railroad was completed by Northwest Fork Hundred, a primarily agricultural district in the colonial days. The station and town were owned by Simeon Pennewell . The city's constitution first came into force in 1901. With the station, Greenwood quickly grew into a commercial location. The growth of the urban population was supported by a large number of small businesses. In the 1910s, a second railway line, the Maryland, Delaware and Virginia short line, ran east to west through the city. Despite the diverse development, Greenwood remained a small town. In 1887 250 people lived in the city, in 1910 there were 362 and in 1920 around 500. A fire destroyed a number of commercial buildings in the city in 1928 and gave the impetus to construct a water system with larger water storage for fire protection.
