Gregory Milmore Poehler (born October 11, 1974 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American actor, comedian, producer, and writer. He became known for his leading role in the Swedish-American TV series Welcome to Sweden , for which he wrote the script. The series is based on Poehler's own experience as an American immigrant in Sweden.

Life

Poehler was born in Boston and grew up in Burlington . His parents are high school teachers Eileen Frances (née Milmore) and William Grinstead Poehler. Poehler has English, German, Portuguese and Irish ancestors. His older sister is American comedian and producer Amy Poehler . Poehler studied at Boston College , from which he graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts. He then studied at Fordham University School of Law and received his doctorate in law . After graduating, Poehler moved to New York's West Village and worked as a lawyer specializing in copyright law in New York and Sweden . In 2006 Poehler finally moved to Stockholm to live with his Swedish friend and current wife, Charlotta Meder, who is also a lawyer . The couple has three children. In 2006 Poehler obtained a master's degree in European copyright law from Stockholm University.

After working as a lawyer for twelve years, Poehler began performing as a stand-up comedian in Sweden in 2012. On stage he talked about his experiences as an expat in Sweden, the Swedish audience was enthusiastic. At the same time he developed and wrote the script for his first TV series Welcome to Sweden, which was very successful in Sweden . The series is about the American Bruce, who moves from the USA to Sweden because of his love for the Swede Emma (Josephine Bornebusch). Linguistic and cultural differences often lead to misunderstandings among the couple and their relatives and friends. The love relationship keeps breaking, but with humor and tolerance the protagonists learn to understand each other better. Greg Poehler's sister Amy Poehler is the producer of the series, which has also been broadcast in Germany since 2015.
