Gregor Seyffert

Gregor Seyffert (* 1967 in Berlin ) is a German dancer , director and choreographer . Since 2002 he has been artistic director of the State Ballet School and School of Artistry in Berlin, most recently as director of the State Youth Ballet . On the basis of previously unconfirmed allegations, he has been released from service by the Berlin Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family since February 17, 2020. This applies until the instances used to clarify the matter present concrete evidence of the allegations or refute them.

Life

Gregor Seyffert was born in Berlin and studied at the State Ballet School Berlin . In 1987 Seyffert was engaged as a solo dancer at the Komische Oper Berlin under the direction of the choreographer Tom Schilling . There he danced for thirteen years, since 1991 as the first soloist. In the meantime, in 1988, he worked in New York with the American Ballet Theater under the direction of Mikhail Baryshnikov . In 1996 he founded the Gregor Seyffert & Compagnie Berlin , with which he was invited to the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta with the productions Über das Marionettentheater and Clown Gottes as an official German cultural contribution .

Gregor Seyffert has been a freelance dancer, choreographer and producer since 2000/2001. In 2002 he was appointed artistic director of the State Ballet School Berlin and in 2006 professor for stage dance at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin . In 2004, the first own, full-length production Das Paradies und die Peri was created in cooperation with the Robert Schumann Festival Düsseldorf (equipment, costumes, video: Gottfried Helnwein ). Between 2004 and 2009 Gregor Seyffert acted as artistic director of the Gregor Seyffert Compagnie Dessau , which was founded as part of a cooperation between Gregor Seyffert & Compagnie Berlin and the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau . During this time, Gregor Seyffert directed and choreographed numerous full-length works such as The Little Prince (2005), Tango Palast (2007), Peri - An Angel Between Heaven & Earth (2008) or Around The World In 80 Days (2009).

The cross-genre spectacle Marquis de Sade was premiered in 2006 at the Kraftwerk Vockerode site and had over 50,000 visitors between 2006 and 2009.
