Gregor Zöllig (born October 31, 1965 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss dancer and choreographer . He is the artistic director and chief choreographer of the dance theater at the Braunschweig State Theater.

Artistic work

Gregor Zöllig left Switzerland at the age of seventeen to complete his dancer training at the Folkwang Academy of Music in Essen . He then continued his studies at the Ballet Academy of the Stuttgart John Cranko School for two more years .

From 1989 to 1995 Zöllig worked as a dancer and solo dancer at the theaters in Aachen and Münster. During this time several of his own choreographic works were created for these theaters. In 1996 he became assistant and guest trainer at the Bremer Tanztheater under the artistic direction of Urs Dietrich . In 1995 he founded and ran his own company until 1997 when he switched to the dance theater of the Städtische Bühnen Osnabrück as director and choreographer. Together with Christine Biedermann , he directed the Osnabrück dance theater for eight years. The choreographer placed the focus of his work on developing his own dance pieces.

Through the cooperation with international guest choreographers and the guest performances of international dance companies, the Osnabrück dance theater was also representative for the exchange of innovative dance styles. So were Simone Sandroni, Andre Gingras, Guilherme Botelho, Jo Stromgren, Guy Weizmann and Roni Haver, Lionel Hoche, Örjan Anderson, Rami Levi, Anouk van Dijk, the Nederlands Dans Theater, Alias Compagnie Geneva, Hamburg Ballet, Bavarian State Ballet, Tero Saarinen Company u. a. visiting Osnabrück or Bielefeld.

Gregor Zöllig and Christine Biedermann have been running the Bielefeld dance theater since August 2005 with the same artistic intentions.

Guest choreographies took him to the Tanzwerk Nürnberg / Ballett Nürnberg under the artistic direction of Jean Renshaw and Dirk Elwert, to the Staatstheater Schwerin, to the Ballet Vorpommern, the Ballett Nürnberg under the artistic direction of Daniela Kurz and to the Staatstheater Oldenburg.

Gregor Zöllig also founded initiatives such as the Osnabrück dance theater festival , Tanzboden , the first German network of urban and state dance ensembles, and the amateur dance projects, the dance workshop: The Elk Dances and Zeitsprung . He developed the latter series of projects together with Royston Maldoom. In 2009, the Bielefeld dance theater's time jump concept was presented at the “Children to Olympus” congress, an educational initiative of the Federal and State Cultural Foundation, where it received nationwide recognition. Due to this success and the future-oriented model character of the time jump projects, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has now made funding available for 2010 to 2012, which make it possible to set up a project position.

In 2001, Gregor Zöllig was appointed as a member of the jury of the 15th International Choreographers Competition in Hanover, the committee of the Choreographers Competition of the Cour du capucin, Luxembourg and, since 2007, the jury for the promotion of young talent at the Kunststiftung NRW.
