Gregorio Valdez O'Connell (* 1945 ) is an entrepreneur in Guatemala .

Life

His brother is José Luis Valdés O'Connell, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Banco Agromercantil . Gregorio Valdez O'Connell runs Distribuidora Piper , founded by his father , Hangar # 7, Aeropuerto Internacional La Aurora, Zona 13, Guatemala City, Guatemala.

He is the managing director of Aeroservicios SA (AVESA); Alas rotativas ; Douglas de Guatemala ; Productos y Servicios D y M ; Telephonos del Norte ; Telephones del Oriente ; VOSA ; Valdez Aeroservicios y CL ; Universal de Traslados; Teléfonos del Sur ; Teléfonos de Occidente , Servicios Aéreos y Valores .

Gregorio Valdez O'Connell is married to María de Rosario Asturias, the President's Representative for Guatemalan Tourism (INGUAT) and Sandra Torres de Colom's image and clothing advisor .

Activities as a businessman

Involvement in drug trafficking

On December 3, 1988, the Drug Enforcement Administration in Villa de Tiquisate, Escuintla , Guatemala seized 356 kilograms of cocaine from Valdez. Valdez's drug trafficking is well documented by the DEA. Valdez was Jack McCavett's personal pilot at the US Embassy in Guatemala City and Randy Capister was the shop steward for the G-2 . His company was a contract partner of the CIA and the DEA for several years , even after it was known that Valdez transported drugs on his own account.

Government contracts

The Valdez companies were temporarily general agents for Piper Aircraft Corporation in Guatemala and for Bell Helicopter in Central America.

The company Piper, SA sold the Nicaraguan government of Arnoldo Alemán for 0.8 million USD a helicopter of the type Bell 407 TG-NVR in red with gold stripes.

In 2005 the Guatemalan government planned to order 10 aircraft from Óscar Berger Perdomo and the repair of a further 10 aircraft to a Valdez company.

From 2005 to 2007, orders from the State of Guatemala for 23.8 million quetzales were awarded to Valdez companies in the aircraft sector. The clients were the government and defense ministries under Carlos Aldana as well as the Secretaría de Asuntos Administrativos y Seguridad (SAAS), which had taken on the tasks of the archivist . For this purpose, weapons, ammunition, security and helicopter spare parts were supplied.

Gregorio Valdez O'Connell is one of the concessionaires for the new Guatemala City Airport . He is on the one hand in the role of the supplier and on the other hand that of the purchaser for the Fuerza Aérea de Guatemala (FAG).

In 2008 ten orders with a volume of 216.7 million Quetzales were awarded. From January to April 2009 seven projects with a volume of 331.7 million Quetzales were awarded.

On May 28, 2009, officials from the Public Prosecutor's Office (Ministerio Publico) for the Comisión Internacional contra la Impunidad en Guatemala (CICIG) searched the offices of the distributor Piper, SA , to which AVESA and SEVESA belong, on the premises of Aurora Airport.

In addition to numerous other entrepreneurial activities, Gregorio Valdez O'Connell is a partner in Easy Marketing , Sagem's subsidiary in Guatemala. Easy Marketing has the contract for the identity card system in Guatemala and is a promising applicant for the passport system in Guatemala.

Campaign funding

Since 1986 Valdez companies have been involved in campaign funding for various election alliances in Guatemala.

In 2003 Gregorio Valdez O'Connell supported the Gran Alianza Nacional and AVESA flew presidential candidates through the election campaign.

In 2007, the Valdez companies supported the Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza and the presidential candidate Álvaro Colom Caballeros were given helicopters by AVESA during the election campaign.

Rodrigo Rosenberg dies
