Greifswald Bach Week

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Greifswalder Bachwoche is a music festival in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district , especially in the Hanseatic city of Greifswald but also in the surrounding area. The organizer was the Pomeranian Evangelical Church , since 2012 the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

The Bach Week, which takes place every year in May and June, was developed spiritually and artistically in 1946 by Hans Pflugbeil and his wife Annelise Deutsch, born in 1947 . Buss came into being, making it the oldest music festival in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The term "Greifswalder Bachwoche" was coined from 1950. In September 1946 the "Bach Days" were the beginning of this annual series of education and events, which was followed in June 1947 by the "Bach Days". In 1948 the event was held as the “Bach-Handel Week” and in 1949 as the “Greifswald Church Music Festival”. The openness to other composers was documented in the sixth Bach week by striking lettering by graphic artist Helmut Maletzke using a triad of Schütz / Bach / Brahms. The artistic direction of the Bach Week was until 1974 Hans Pflugbeil, followed by Manfred Schlenker and since 1993 church music director Jochen A. Modeß . The main sponsors are the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, North German Broadcasting and the Hanseatic City of Greifswald.
