Jochen A. Modeß
Jochen A. Modeß (* 1954 in Bassum ) is a German church musician , organist , composer and university professor .
Modeß grew up in Minden / Westphalia. From 1975 to 1980 he studied church music at the Hanover University of Music and Theater. He completed his church music studies with the state A-examination for church musicians . From 1980 to 1983 he was cantor at the Matthäuskirche in Berlin-Steglitz and from 1983 to 1993 in the same position at the Neustädter Marienkirche in Bielefeld . There he directed the Marienkantorei, children's and youth choirs as well as the Marienorchester and the Bielefeld vocal ensemble. In 1992 he was awarded the title of " Church Music Director". In 1993 he was appointed university professor for church music and thus director of the institute for church music at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald . At St. Nikolai Cathedral (Greifswald) , he was appointed cathedral cantor; since then he has been the artistic director of the Greifswald Bach Week . Numerous compositions by Jochen A. Modeß were created primarily for church music, most recently the oratorio “Peace” and “Marienmusik II”, which was premiered during the 51st Bach Week.
