Katherine MacGregor ( January 12, 1925 as Dorlee Deane MacGregor in Glendale , California - November 13, 2018 in Los Angeles , California) was an American actress , best known for her role as Harriet Oleson in the television series Our Little Farm .

Live and act

Katherine MacGregor was raised by her mother alone and began her career in 1947 under the stage name Scottie MacGregor in the children's program Scrapbook, Junior Edition , which she hosted until 1949. 'Scottie' was her nickname, which she got because of her Scottish origins. MacGregor studied dance and acting in New York City .

In 1949 she married the actor Bert Remsen , from whom she was divorced a short time later. In 1954 she made her first feature film appearance, a small supporting role in Die Faust im Nacken . Other smaller roles in television films and series followed. In the 1960s she worked mainly in the theater, including Broadway , where she appeared in Edward Albee 's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? occurred. She returned to television in the early 1970s. She has taken on roles in various productions and has appeared in television series such as Mannix and Der Chef .

In 1974 she was hired by Michael Landon for Our Little Farm . For the role of Harriet Oleson, she chose the more serious-sounding stage name Katherine MacGregor, which she had previously used sporadically. In her role, she embodied a greedy and gossip-addicted entrepreneur who is full of conceit and does not shy away from intrigues to achieve her selfish goals, as she is convinced that she is the most important person in her hometown Walnut Grove. The character was so ambivalent that the role of the actress always gave the opportunity to show her good heart after all. Actually only intended as a supporting role, Katherine MacGregor played the character of Harriet Oleson so convincingly that the shopkeeper was developed into a main character in the series. In the last regular episode of the series, she was last seen in Our Little Farm .

MacGregor did not take part in the three television films produced afterwards because she was on a self-discovery tour through India at the time of shooting . Shortly afterwards, she ended her career in front of the camera and only appeared on theatrical stages. She also worked, meanwhile converted to Hinduism , as an acting teacher and writer for the children's theater group Wee Hollywood Vedanta Players . She last lived in seclusion in California, where she died in November 2018 at the age of 93.
