The Grenzlandbaude , originally Grenzland-Baude , was an inn near Johanngeorgenstadt , a mountain town in the Ore Mountains in the Free State of Saxony, known for its exposed location .

history

At the 892 m high pass of the Fastenberg , over which the Eibenstocker Straße runs from Johanngeorgenstadt to Steinbach , before it formerly led into the high spruce forest, Rudolf Lindner had an inn built in the style of a small mountain hut. The building was officially opened on June 29, 1935 as a Grenzland-Baude . The then elected term borderland came to Germany after the First World War , when more German-speaking minorities outside the closely drawn national borders in lived Nationalist movement of particular importance. The Saxon Ore Mountains were the borderland to the Sudeten Germans living in the Bohemian Ore Mountains .

The Grenzlandbaude quickly developed into a popular excursion destination, especially for guests from Saxony, but also from the surrounding countries, due to its convenient location with guaranteed snow in winter and the wide view of the Fichtel-, Keil- and Plattenberg from the guest terrace. The Grenzlandbaude was even more popular with the construction of a separate outdoor dance hall at the end of the 1930s.

Already during the Second World War, but especially after the end of the war, most of the guests stayed away due to the revival of uranium mining by Wismut AG , especially since Johanngeorgenstadt could only be visited with a bilingual special permit (Russian / German) for reasons of confidentiality. The inn was only used as a restaurant until it was finally closed around 1970.

Until the construction of the new town of Johanngeorgenstadt and the move to the new post office in Leninstrasse, there was a barrack in the immediate vicinity of the Grenzlandbaude, in which the construction management of the Deutsche Post for the urban district of Johanngeorgenstadt was housed. The move to the new post office took place on November 24, 1954.

Next to the Grenzlandbaude building is the large Schwibbogen with the motif of Paula Jordan from 1937 on Eibenstocker Strasse. Not far from there was the Engelsfreude mine . In addition, on the top of the Fastenberg, not far from the location of the Grenzlandbaude, there was a multi-storey wooden observation frame built by the Erzgebirgsverein , which, however, had to be dismantled at the end of the 19th century due to its dilapidation.

The postal address of the former Grenzlandbaude was: Eibenstocker Str. 19F .
