Griessteig

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Griessteig (also Griesteig or Griestisch ) was a trade and traffic route in the Lower Austrian Waldviertel .

The word "grie" means a sandy bank or a sandy spot. The Griessteig began on the Danube near Marbach an der Donau and moved via Rappoltenreith and Bruck to Laimbach , past Wimberg Castle and through the Ysperklamm and through the Weinsberg Forest to Rappottenstein . to flow into the Polansteig . The Griessteig found its continuation in the Beheimsteig , which ran from Zwettl to the north.

A similar but older variant through the Weitental was the Steinerne Weg .
