Peter Csendes
Peter Csendes (born December 30, 1944 in Vienna ) is an Austrian historian . From 1994 to 2001 he was director of the Institute Austrian Biographical Lexicon and Biographical Documentation of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . Since 1992 he has been associate professor for history of the Middle Ages and historical auxiliary sciences at the University of Vienna .
Life
Csendes was born the son of a master watchmaker and his wife. He attended the Bundesrealgymnasium Wien VII ( new building ) and studied history and German at the University of Vienna . From 1965 to 1968 he completed the course at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research in Vienna as a full member (examination work with Heinrich Appelt ). In 1967 he was at Alfred Hoffmann with the dissertation The streets of Lower Austria in the early and high Middle Ages to Dr. phil. PhD.
In 1967 he became an archivist in the Vienna City and State Archives , and in 1979 its deputy director. In 1990 he became a Senate Councilor. In 1991 he became General Secretary of the University Anniversary Foundation of the City of Vienna. From 1994 to 2001 he was the managing director of the Institute Austrian Biographical Lexicon and Biographical Documentation of the Austrian Academy of Sciences . In 1999 he was appointed councilor . Since 2013 he has been head of the Lower Austrian archive in Wiener Neudorf near Mödling , where he is responsible for history.
In 1980 , Csendes completed his habilitation at the University of Vienna for history of the Middle Ages and historical auxiliary sciences (subject: The Chancellery of Emperor Heinrich VI. ) And took on a university professorship. In 1992 he received the title of associate professor (tit. Ao. Prof.).
His extensive research and publication activities (including as editor of the yearbook of the Association for the History of the City of Vienna , the Austrian Biographical Lexicon and the series of publications as well as co-editor of the Vienna Edition ) concern not only the city history of Vienna, but also general history of the Middle Ages, especially the 12th and 13th century. For example, he has monographs on Philip of Swabia and the Staufer emperor Heinrich VI. submitted.
He is a member of the advisory board of the Austrian Working Group for Urban History Research , a corresponding member of the Southwest German Working Group for Urban History, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Documentation Archive of the Austrian Resistance and President (1997-2001) of the Association of Austrian Archivists .
Csendes is married and has two children.
