Grigore "Nyulu" Popan (* 1975 ; † July 25, 2009 near Csenger , Hungary ) was a Romanian football player .

Athletic career

Popan played for various clubs in the Satu Mare area , starting his career at Dinamo Satu Mare . In the summer of 1997, the striker moved to Germany for FC Bayern Hof in the then fourth-class Bayernliga . In the 1999/2000 season he reached fourth place in the table with the team; He drew attention to himself in a higher class and moved on to 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 in the regional league in Bavaria in the summer . With the club he was third in the table of the southern season and rose to the 2nd Bundesliga .

Popan then returned to Romania and joined the then second division club FC Baia Mare . However , the club renounced the promotion to Divizia A for financial reasons. The offensive player moved to the third division Victoria Carei , to whose promotion to Divizia B he made a significant contribution as top scorer. He later moved to Hungary for third division club Mátészalka FC , from which he moved on to second division club Nyíregyháza Spartacus FC . In July 2009, at the age of 34, Popan had a fatal accident in a car accident near the Hungarian town of Csenger when he rolled over several times with his vehicle unbuckled.
