Griot , formerly Mory (also: Brewz Banna RV, The Dick, Black Pitt, Riddick Blow, Di Wissi Linie and John Drummond), real name Mory Kondé, is a Swiss rapper of Guinean descent. The pseudonym Brewz Bana RV is a modification of the character Bruce Banner from the movie Hulk and the English word "brew" for beer. RV stands for rhetorically versed , for the turbo version - like a car with a supercharger - he explained in an interview with hiphop.de in 2007.

biography

Griot has West African roots and grew up in Binningen in the Basel region. On February 1, 2004, he and Tarik Benziad founded a general partnership called "Benziad & Kondé Enterprises" in Binningen for the purpose of planning, advertising and conducting courses in the music sector and trading in goods of all kinds, especially the import and sale of textiles, which on May 17, 2006 was dissolved again.

He is under contract with the Universal Music label, where he founded a sub-label called Shotta Music. From the album "s'Neue Testament" he called himself Griot. He published several mixtapes (fuck off-, Game Over- & Killer Tape) and gave away plates of clubs (Club Series). Thanks to the collaboration between NoCode and Optik Records, he is on the crew sampler Optik Schweiz - Who invented it? represented. With his debut album Strossegold , which was released through Universal Music, he reached number 18 on the Swiss album charts in 2006. It was also awarded the Slang Night Award for “Best Rap Album of the Year” .

He founded his own label Shotta Music in 2006. Another mixtape by Griot was released in November 2007, entitled "Strosseparade", on which Kool Savas , Snaga & Pillath and Sentino have guest contributions. He is also on the mixtape of DJ Sweap and DJ Pfund 500 We also take Euro , which was published by Aggro Berlin , with two tracks.

Parallel to the recordings for “Strosseparade”, Griot launched his own web TV channels on YouTube with the names Shotta TV and Shotta TV Sports .

In the 2007 film Breakout , he made a guest appearance in the role of a breakdance battle host.

In 2010, Griot announced his retirement as a rapper. In the run-up to the release of MiCH , Griot makes the continuation of his career dependent on the success of the album. He claimed that there was a lack of respect for rap as an art form in the Swiss rap scene and that he himself would never have been perceived as an artist, but always put in the gangster drawer.

Since May 2013, Griot has been the moderator of the podcast "Zwei Bünzlis" in which humor is important and seriousness should be avoided at all costs.

His brother Oumar Kondé used to be a professional footballer and played for the German SC Freiburg and FC Zurich in Switzerland.
