Groß Flotow is nine kilometers northwest of the town center of Penzlin, more spaciously between the cities of Waren (Müritz) , Neubrandenburg , Neustrelitz and Stavenhagen . The district of Klein Flotow belonged to the community of Groß Flotow.

history

Groß Flotow (Slavic bloto = swamp) emerged from a Slavic settlement. The village was first mentioned in the documents in 1418. The early Gothic first church building dates back to the 13th century. In 1894 the church was renewed on the old foundations. Like the entire region, Flotow suffered extremely from the Thirty Years' War . A glassworks was built around 1700 and has been called Klein Flotow since 1800 .

Opposite the church is the manor with a gate entrance. The estate belonged to the Counts of Voss in the 19th century and then passed to von Oertzen auf Rothen around 1900 , lastly Henning v. Oertzen (1889–1978), who held it until it was expropriated in 1945. At the beginning of the 20th century, apart from the simple manor house and the reapers barracks, there were only a few farm workers' cottages in Flotow. Most of the houses made of the typical red brick were built in the 1930s and later in the 1950s. In the meantime, through repurchase, the estate belongs to the adoptive descendants of the last owner, the von Oertzen- von Waldow family , who had the dilapidated manor house reconstructed (or rebuilt).
