Big old ferry
The Große Altefähre is a street in Lübeck's old town .
location
The Große Altefähre in the Marien-Magdalenen Quartier connects the Untertrave with the Kleine Burgstraße . In the lower part, the road runs almost in a west-east direction, so that it bends clearly to the southeast at the confluence of the Kleine Altenfähre . The Engelswisch meets the Große Altefähre near the Untertrave .
history
The street was first mentioned in 1283 with the Latin - Low German mixed name Antiquum Vere (old ferry). The name goes back to a ferry across the Trave , which was no longer in service at that time , and which was probably stopped after the Lübeck Castle was destroyed in 1227. The name Oldenvere is documented in 1289 , in 1372 the street is first referred to as Oldenvere major and in 1478 as Grote Oldenvere . Große Altefähre has been the officially established name since 1852 .
The south-eastern part was sometimes considered part of the Kleine Burgstrasse in earlier centuries. During the Second World War , the Große Altefähre remained unscathed during the air raid on Lübeck on March 29, 1942 and still shows a closed historical development.
