The Kleine Altefähre is a street in Lübeck's old town .

location

The 90 meter long Kleine Altefähre is located in the northwest of the old town island, in the Marien-Magdalenen quarter . It branches off from the Great Old Ferry and curves north-west, with the castle stairs meeting the road from the west . Finally the small old ferry ends at the Untertrave .

history

The small old ferry is mentioned for the first time in a document in 1307 with the Low German - Latin name Parva platea apud Oldenvere (small road by the old ferry). The name goes back to a ferry over the Trave that was no longer in service at that time , which was probably stopped after the Lübeck Castle was destroyed in 1227 and from which the neighboring Große Altefähre also received its name. The name experienced variations over the centuries that followed, but was essentially retained:

  • 1310: Apud Oldenvere
  • 1319: Apud Oldenvere in vico, quo itur ad arborem ( At the old ferry in the alley that leads to the tree , which means the floating barrier made of tree trunks that secured the Trave )
  • 1335: In Oldenvere
  • 1357: Parva Oldenvere (Haln Latin, half Low German: Kleine Altefähre )
  • 1385: Lutke Oldenvere (Low German, Kleine Altefähre )
  • 1608: Klene Oldefähr

The current name was officially established in 1852.

During the Second World War , the Kleine Altefähre remained unscathed during the air raid on Lübeck on March 29, 1942 and still shows a closed historical development.
