The 1956 Rouen Grand Prix , also Grand Prix de Rouen (Coupe Delamare Deboutteville), Rouen-les-Essarts , was a sports car race that took place on July 8, 1956 at the Rouen-les-Essarts circuit . The race was not part of any racing series.

The race

The 1956 Rouen Grand Prix was announced as a sports car race and consisted of two independent races. Not uncommon for the 1950s, racing cars of different classes competed in two separate races. Only vehicles with a displacement of less than 1.5 liters entered the race . There was a one-two for Team Lotus ; Colin Chapman won ahead of his teammate Cliff Allison (both drove the Lotus Eleven ).

Then there was a three-way battle in the class up to 3-liter displacement between the Italian racing teams from Ferrari and Maserati and the works team from Aston Martin . After 50 laps, Eugenio Castellotti in the Ferrari 860 Monza triumphed four seconds ahead of Stirling Moss in the Aston Martin DB3S .
