The great Rußweiher bird sanctuary is part of a chain of ponds that was laid out in the 15th century and is a retreat for around 100 species of birds. It includes the Great Rußweiher, the largely completely silted up Paulusweiher and the Rußlohe. The area is of national importance for water-bound and amphibious communities.
