The Great White Lake is a lake in the western district of Mecklenburg Lake District , Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is located about one kilometer west of Wesenberg and, together with the Little White Lake, fills a small glacial channel .
Location and surroundings
The Great White Lake is surrounded from the west and northwest by the forest landscape area Hohes Holz , where the area of the Müritz National Park begins. In the north of the lake there is a drainage ditch that leads out of the lake but has no water for most of the year. Also north of the lake is the Große Villa am Weißen See , which was built in 1920/1921 and has been used as a children's home since 1947. To the east of the lake are the elevation of the Wörlandberg and a small settlement directly on the shore. The embankment of the Wittenberge – Strasburg railway line is visible to the south .
The Kleine Weißer See and the Kleine Labussee are located near the lake .
tourism
The use and development of the southern shore of the Great White Lake began as early as the end of the 19th century. A bathing establishment was opened there in 1893, of which the old changing building is still there today. Not far from the beach, a new restaurant was built and opened in 1963. In 1970 the first public campground opened on the western slope of the Wörlandberg, which finally opened the lake to tourism. In 2013, systems were also installed for new train stops on the White Lake on the Neustrelitz-Mirow route.
Due to the water conditions and the good visibility at the time, GST athletes chose the lake as a training location for divers in the 1970s and 80s. The water of the lake is said to have a natural healing effect (natural healing source).
