The Große Kernbruch (also: Das Große Kernbruch ) is an intermediate moor in the north of the state of Brandenburg directly on the border with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is located in the municipality of Boitzenburger Land, southeast of the Feldberger Seenlandschaft .

The geomorphological channel east of the Krüselinsee has a length of about one kilometer and a width of about 150-200 meters.

The core breach was originally an open lake that silted up as early as 3000 to 2500 years ago due to mud and peat formation . The moor has a catchment area of ​​89 hectares and is classified in the first priority class (intact to disturbed peat moss bogs) in the bog protection framework plan of the NaturschutzFondsBrandenburg. It is a flat to arched peat moss bog, the original ecological bog type is sour moor. The bog is up to 15 meters thick. A vital, near-natural peat moss vegetation has developed as a plant cover on the moor, which is now wooded .

The former Großer Kernbruch nature reserve was designated by resolution no. 61/75 of the Neubrandenburg district assembly of January 8, 1975 and covered 16.3 hectares. It had been part of the Uckermark Lakes Nature Park since 1997 . It opened on January 1, 2015 in the much larger nature reserve Küstrinchen . Beyond the state border with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the Krüselinsee and Mechowseen nature reserve are directly connected .
