In prehistory and early history, the Großromstedter Horizont (also known as Großromstedter Kultur or Großromstedter Group ) is an archaeological cultural group at the transition from the later Late Latène Period (2nd half of the 1st century BC) to the early Roman Empire in Central Germany . The eponymous burial ground of Großromstedt , an Elbe Germanic fire burial ground , is located near Großromstedt in Thuringia . Other sites are known in addition to Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt and East Saxony , especially from Bohemia as well as Main Franconia and Hesse .

The Großromstedt culture is associated with Elbe Germanic settlers near Großromstedt, who spread from Thuringia to the south and south-west in the decades before the birth of Christ. The burial ground there was excavated between 1907 and 1913. In older research, the Großromstedt culture was traditionally associated with the Hermunduren .

Archaeological finds of Elbe Germanic provenance, such as those of fibulae , iron weapons, terrines, bowl urns and ceramic parts decorated with wheels, were mostly interpreted as Hermundurian in older research in Thuringia. Traditional research on Central Germany assumed that the Elbe-Germanic Hermundures gradually spread to the south and south-west in the Thuringian region and that the Celts who settled there dominated or pushed them over the Thuringian Forest .
