Great stone graves near Burow

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The megalithic graves near Burow were two megalithic tombs of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Burow , a district of Lübz in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). They were destroyed in the 19th century. In 1804 a Friedrich Wilhelm Zinck carried out an excavation.

location

The location of the graves is only given very imprecisely as “on the field of Burow”. About 3–4 km to the north were the large stone graves near Gischow , which were also destroyed in the 19th century . To the west is the Siggelkow stone grave .

Grave 2 was constructed similarly to grave 1. It also had a large capstone. A pavement or quarters were not found. A large number of ceramic shards and two flint axes were found among grave goods.

Finds of unclear origin

Robert Beltz reports that the collection of the Grand Ducal Museum, today's Archaeological State Museum Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Schwerin , had two human skulls which, according to the description, should come from Zinck's excavation in Burow. It is unclear, however, from which of the graves they came.
