Peckatel's cult car from the collections

The Archaeological State Museum Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , formerly the Museum of Prehistory and Early History Schwerin , is the archaeological and cultural history state museum of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in Schwerin . The museum presents the history and archaeological finds of the state and has one of the most extensive collections of the Bronze Age in northern Central Europe . The showpieces of the collection include the Bronze Age cult car from Peckatel as well as the Horn from Wismar , the dance ring from Roga and the Luren from Lübzin .

The State Archaeological Museum goes back to the sovereign collections from the middle of the 18th century and is one of the old museum collections in Schwerin. The history of the museum collections is closely linked to the life's work of Georg Christian Friedrich Lisch and Robert Beltz . The collections of the traditional association for me (c) clenburg history and antiquity (founded in 1834), the remains of the grand ducal antiquities collection "Georgium" from Neustrelitz and numerous other school collections from all over Mecklenburg have also been incorporated into it.

The facility itself was created in the early 1950s as the Museum of Prehistory and Early History in Schwerin by removing the holdings from the State Museum in Schwerin and is based on the concept of the first director Ewald Schuldt . With jobs in each of the three northern districts of the GDR, the Schwerin Museum also coordinated the entire voluntary preservation of monuments in this area, carried out by thousands of voluntary preservationists.

On January 1, 2006, the museum was incorporated into the State Office for Culture and Monument Preservation . The State Archaeological Museum Mecklenburg-Vorpommern shows or participates in special exhibitions at various locations, but does not have a permanent exhibition today.
