description

The preserved grave 1

The grave is very badly damaged. A pile of hills cannot be detected. The burial chamber is oriented west-east and has a width of 1.8 m. When Johann Karl Wächter took the picture around 1840, there were still eight wall stones and two cap stones. In 1927 Ernst Sprockhoff found only two wall stones on the southern long side, one on the northern long side and a cap stone resting on them. The grave is still in this condition today. The capstone has a length of 3 m, a width of 2 m and a thickness of 1.5 m. Its surface is covered with numerous bowls ; according to Müller-Brauel there are a total of 41.

The destroyed grave 2

The grave had six wall stones and two cap stones. It was 3 m long and 2.1 m wide. On the south side (whether long or narrow side is not known) it is said to have had a staircase-like entrance. This stair construction is very rare for the large stone graves of the funnel beaker culture. Only four other facilities have such access: The large stone grave Deinste 1 , the large stone grave Krelingen , the large stone grave Sieben Steinhäuser C (all in Lower Saxony) and the large stone grave Eext (D13) in the Netherlands .
