The Gronda GmbH is a 2015 based social network and job site as e-recruitment for the catering and hotel industry with headquarters in Wattens . The company operates a website and an app of the same name. The aim of the platform is to build a global gastronomy and hotel community.

history

Founder Valentin Schütz has been running a blog since July 2015 in which he shared experiences from his childhood in his parents' hotel in Pitztal. The Gronda platform, which was founded by Schütz, Juan Vicci and Tobias Zetzsche, emerged from this blog in January 2016. Just six months after it was founded, on June 8, 2016, Gronda was able to win the “IHA Industry Award for Start-ups” from the German Hotel Association, endowed with 125,000 euros .

In March 2017 the company announced that the investors Speedinvest and karriere.at  as lead investors as well as Howzat Partners and Mairdumont Verlag had  generated around half a million euros in investments.

Gronda is currently based in Wattens, where the portal operates in a Swarovski coworking space and employs 25 people.

The company's logo at the time, a corkscrew , was chosen according to the company's own statements because the high quality of the corkscrew should stand for the well-trained professionals who are members of the platform. The term Gronda was chosen because it is the Italian word for a connector and the makers see their offer as a connector between employers and employees.

In early 2020, Gronda received around 1.5 million euros from its investors Speedinvest, Karriere.at and Howzat Partners in another round of capital. In the course of this, Karriere.at bought the shares of the Mairdumont publishing house. The co-founder Valentin Schütz still holds 42.5% of the company.

At the same time, Gronda announced that there are currently 150,000 end users and 500 businesses on the platform and that the company plans to reach one million end users by the end of 2020 and offer jobs from twelve different countries. According to the company's own statements, the long-term goal is further internationalization outside the European market.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and the high unemployment that followed, the company announced that job postings for companies on the platform will be free from April to the end of June 2020 in order to "give the industry a helping hand" according to its own statements .

Rebranding 2019

The Gronda logo between 2015 and May 2019

In May 2019, Gronda changed its logo, as the previous logo, the corkscrew, only "represents part of the industry and therefore no longer fits the company ". The new logo represents a drop of water that is supposed to connect the elements fire and water. In addition, the company also gave itself a new color scheme, which consists of the colors turquoise , blue and red. At the same time, Gronda announced that 150,000 end users and 400 companies in 5 countries are currently using the platform.

Functionality

The portal differs from similar offers such as LinkedIn or XING in that it combines the functionality of a social network with that of a job portal in the sense of e-recruiting and specializes exclusively in the catering and hotel industries.

The platform has had a new price system since March 2020: According to Gronda, each of the hotel and restaurant businesses pays per so-called "slot", i.e. per published job advertisement , whereby the price for an annual billing is between 139 euros per month with 3 slots and 249 euros per month 10 slots. Monthly billing is also possible, the price per slot is currently 190 euros.

Membership is generally free of charge for private end users. They create their curriculum vitae , called “career”, in which work experience, training, language skills and awards can be presented. After the definition of the "dream job", the user is shown open job positions in various companies to which he can apply with a click or fingertip. Only when the applicant has applied to a company or “accepted” a job offer does the company see the user's full profile.

However, since 2020 there has also been an optional paid version for end users, " Gronda Pro ". This costs EUR 59.99 for annual billing and EUR 7.49 for monthly billing and has the following advantages for the user: A highlighted profile in the network and when searching for a job, exclusive webinars with prominent chefs and the ability to send messages to other users. Further advantages are to follow in the future.

In addition, users can follow influencers , companies and other users and view their postings , which are then displayed in so-called "stories".

Since April 2020, companies have been able to handle all of their recruiting via the app, i.e. place jobs, process applications, write messages and operate active sourcing . Previously, the website had to be used in part for this.

Availability

The platform currently operates in Austria, Germany , Italy , Luxembourg , Liechtenstein and Switzerland and has over 250,000 private and around 1,000 commercial users (companies).
