The ship's design is designed as a multi-purpose dry cargo ship with a deckhouse arranged aft and a long middle hold . The volume of the 76.30 / 70.00 meter long loading space is 10,688 m 3 , the tank ceiling is designed for loads of 18 tons / m 2 . The hatch covers can be loaded with 2.5 tons / m 2 and the movable intermediate decks can be loaded with 3.5 tons / m 2 . The ships are mainly used in the transport of bulk goods, bulk cargo, smaller project cargoes or containers. The container capacity is 377 TEU. The ships are equipped with two electrohydraulic ship cranes attached to starboard, each with a lifting capacity of 80 tons, which can move packages of up to 120 tons in coupled operation . The cargo holds of the ships are closed by stacking hatch covers (piggy-backs), which are operated by a movable hatch car.
The drive of the ships consists of a MaK - diesel engine of the type 6M32C. The engine enables a speed of around 12 knots . The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster . Particularly noticeable is the foredeck with Groot Cross-Bow, the shape of which should enable low fuel consumption. In addition, this bow shape is intended to minimize the ship's pitching movements in heavy seas.

On November 24, 2014 at around 11:45 am, the Vectis Eagle collided almost unbraked with a lock gate of the Kiel Canal in Holtenau after a defect in the controllable pitch propeller . The damage to the gate, which had only recently been overhauled, was so severe that a total replacement was expected. [obsolete] The severity of the damage is attributed to the shape of the Groot-Cross-Bug.
