The Jäckel mine was an iron ore mine on Altenberg near Neunkirchen in the southern Siegerland . It consisted of the individual fields Jäckel , Jäckel II , Jäckel III , Alexander von Humboldt and Grüne Au .
The pit is mentioned for the first time in 1812, but mining is likely to be older. In 1838 3 tons of cobalt ore were mined, between 1841 and 1865 43 tons of spar and 108 tons of brown iron followed from the tunnel created in 1841. This was set in the Hellertal and reached 207 m length.
1936, decided a shaft to the 200 m level to sink and built a wooden headframe on. This shaft was 4 × 2 m in size and had an oval shaft disc . The shaft was not backfilled after it was closed . In 1938 32 miners worked in the mine. Two years later it was shut down.
The passage center was 207 m long and an average of 0.4 m thick. It was filled with brown iron stone with copper pebbles and spate iron stone with spitting cobalt.
