The pit Mary Star of the Sea is a former calamine -Grube of Bensberger Erzreviers in Bergisch Gladbach . The site belongs to the Hand district .

history

Due to a Mutungssgesuchs of 30 October 1852, took place ceremony of the mining area on 19 January 1854 on calamine and iron ore . During the mining activities , lead ores and pyrites were also encountered , the extraction of which had not yet been awarded. The Bensberg-Gladbacher Bergwerks & Hütten AG Berzelius therefore submitted a corresponding request for encouragement on January 14, 1887. The award then took place on May 24, 1887 under the name Maria Meerstern II as a complete covering of the Maria Meerstern mine field. No information is available about further operational activities.

Location and relics

The Maria Meerstern and Maria Meerstern II mine fields extended southwest of Paffrather Strasse between Dellbrücker Strasse and Handstrasse. At the intersection of Clemensstrasse and Schneppruthe, a footpath goes into a wooded area between the houses on In der Krabb and the houses on Dellbrücker Strasse. The area borders on August-Kierspel-Strasse to the southwest. Based on the entry of the point of discovery in the award plan of 1852, it can be assumed that the award for Maria Meerstern took place in the northern part and, due to the entry of the point of discovery for Maria Meerstern II in the award plan of March 1887, a little further south. Over the years, the site has been redesigned and partly built on. It is no longer possible to determine with certainty today which traces can be traced back to mining. .
