The company is the largest steel trader in Mexico and one of the leading international companies in the steel sector with branches in 34 countries. It has its own 43 hectare port on the Pacific coast in Lázaro Cárdenas in the state of Michoacán, as well as its own fleet of trucks.

history

The company was founded in 1955 as Materiales Fierro in Monterrey , where its headquarters are still today. Villacero has been represented with its products on the North American market since 1986. In 1999 Villacero founded a joint venture with Coutinho Caro + Co and Ferrostaal . In 2007 Villacero sold its Sicartsa steelworks in Lázaro Cárdenas to ArcelorMittal .

In 2007, the European Commission approved a joint venture between MAN Ferrostaal Power Industry and CCC Steel (Ferrostaal) of the financial investor MPC Capital and the Mexican Grupo Villacero in accordance with the EU Merger Regulation . With the joint venture , the global activities in the field of steel sales were bundled in the newly founded company Coutinho & Ferrostaa , based in Hamburg .

In 2012 Villacero took over Coutinho & Ferrostaal GmbH & Co. KG by purchasing all of the shares in Ferrostaal Metals Holding GmbH, which in turn held a third of Coutinho & Ferrostaal. Another third was acquired from Coutinho, Caro + Co. Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH, which belongs to MPC. Together with a third that has already been held for a long time, Villacero holds a total of 100 percent in the Hamburg-based steel trading company Coutinho & Ferrostaal through its German affiliates. The company was subsequently renamed C&F Steel International GmbH & Co. KG and an exit from MPC, in which Villacero had held a 25.1 percent stake since 2009.
