Gry Larsen (born November 7, 1975 ) is a Norwegian politician of the social democratic Arbeiderpartiet (Ap). From 2002 to 2006 she was chairwoman of the Arbeidernes Ungdomsfylking (AUF) and from 2009 to 2013 State Secretary in the Jens Stoltenberg II government .

Life

Larsen grew up in a working family from Jevnaker . From the age of three to five she lived in Kenya , later she lived in Namibia . After returning to Norway, she became a member of the youth party UP. In 1996 Larsen was the head of the AUF in the province of Oppland . In 1998 she became a member of the board of directors at the state level before becoming the organization's deputy chairman from 2000 to 2002. Between 2002 and 2006 she finally headed the UP after she had won a vote against Eva Kristin Hansen by three votes in 2002 .

Larsen was in the period from 1997 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2009 so-called Vararepresentantin , i.e. substitute member, for the constituency of Oppland in the Norwegian parliament in Storting . However, she was not used. Between October 2005 and April 2009 she worked as a political advisor at the Norwegian Foreign Ministry under Jonas Gahr Støre . Your work there led to criticism in the AUF in early 2006, as the AUF spoke out in favor of a boycott of Israeli goods. Larsen, who was still chairman of the youth party at the time, however, stood behind the government's line, which was against such a boycott. On April 24, 2009, she was appointed Secretary of State in that ministry after Raymond Johansen left the post. She held this office until the departure of the second Stoltenberg government on October 16, 2013. She then became head of communications and organization in the Ap.

In January 2015, Larsen started to work for the aid organization CARE in Norway as general secretary.
